I know that you want it. You want to lose weight, feel terrific, and like what you see when you look into the mirror. But the problem is that once you start the actual process of dieting, exercising, meditation, yoga and other healthy life choices you still need motivation to lose weight in order to get over those plateaus and past those slow spots in progress. There will be low points; there will be times when it’s just not happening fast enough and you want to quit, believing it’s just not worth it. It’s at those very moments you need that extra motivation to lose weight.
For many, this motivation is about power. It’s about confidence, being strong, and taking control of your life. Something will trigger it and that something is different for everyone.
- You want to play with your kids;
- You want to watch your kids grow up;
- You want to walk your daughter down the aisle;
- You want the satisfaction of running your first 5k or marathon;
- You want to wake up each morning looking forward to something!
The best motivation to lose weight for you will be personal. It’s your own personal “why.” You need to recognize it, feed it, and give it power. Put up a bulletin board someplace prominent and add pictures and words that reflect the kind of life you want to live. No matter what number is reflected on the scale, if you are not living the life you want then you have the power to change it.
You can be healthy. You can feel healthy. And you can take the energy that kind of life gives you and do incredible things. You can do that!
What kinds of activities do people engage in to get and keep their motivation to lose weight?
Most often, it’s the activities that give them confidence, exercise their mind, and keep them centered and focused so that non-productive noise is kept in the background:
- Meditation
- Affirmations
- Yoga
- Martial Arts
- Running
- Walking
- Learning something new
- Taking a chance to really be happy
- Journaling
- Positive Socializing
- Volunteering
Remember you are human and you will make mistakes. You will eat some “forbidden” food or miss a day of exercise. That’s normal so don’t let that be the reason you lose your motivation to lose weight.
Each day is a new day to live the life you want, be the weight you want, and improve your health.
And, most importantly, as you journey to lose weight and keep it off, make a point to be proud of yourself every day. That’s the best motivation to lose weight. Don’t wait for some magic number on the scale to give you permission to live your life to the fullest. Tomorrow is promised to nobody. You only have this moment, right now, to love yourself, love the people in your life, and appreciate each breath you take. To your good health…give yourself the gift of a happy, fulfilling, health-filled life every moment.
